Excessive Heat Warning

Expires 11:00 PM EDT on July 26, 2018
Statement as of 3:11 am PDT on July 23, 2018

... Excessive heat warning remains in effect from 10 am this
morning to 8 PM PDT Thursday...
... Wind Advisory has expired...

* high temperatures... daytime high temperatures will range from
90-102, except 80s at cooler beaches. The hottest days are
expected Tuesday and Wednesday.

* Low temperatures... overnight low temperatures will offer
little reprieve from the heat, ranging from 65-70.

* Impacts... increased potential for serious heat-related
illnesses, especially for the Young and elderly, those
performing outdoor activities, as well as those without access
to air conditioning. Increased potential for power outages. In
addition, gusty winds will make driving difficult, especially
for high profile vehicles.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Never, ever, leave people or pets in enclosed vehicles, even for
a short period of time.

Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When
possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or
evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat
stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when
possible and drink plenty of water.

To reduce risk during outdoor work the occupational safety and
health administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks
in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by
heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke
is an emergency - call 911.

Fire Weather Watch

Expires 1:00 PM EDT on July 26, 2018
Statement as of 2:33 PM PDT on July 22, 2018

... Fire Weather Watch remains in effect from Tuesday afternoon
through Thursday morning for gusty northwest to north winds, low
relative humidity, and hot temperatures for the Santa Barbara
South Coast...

* winds... areas of northwest to north winds 20 to 30 mph with
gusts between 40 and 50 mph, except isolated gusts to 55 mph
in the hills above Gaviota and Refugio. The strongest winds
are expected during the late afternoon and nighttime hours
from Gaviota to Goleta.

* Relative humidity... minimum humidities between 10 and 20
percent with poor humidity recovery overnight in foothills and
wind prone areas.

* Temperatures... maximum temperatures between 95 and 103 degrees
in the foothills and wind prone locations.

* Impacts... if fire ignition occurs, there could be rapid
wildfire spread that would lead to a threat to life and
property.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Fire Weather Watch means that there is the potential for
critical fire weather conditions. This in combination with dry
fuels could create extreme fire danger and/or fire behavior. Use
extreme caution with potential ignition sources.
