High Surf Advisory, Areal Flood Advisory

... High surf advisory now in effect until 6 am HST Thursday for
east facing shores...

* surf... along east facing shores 5 to 8 feet.

* Timing... through 6 am Thursday.

* Impacts... moderate... expect strong breaking waves, shore
break, and strong longshore and rip currents making swimming
difficult and dangerous.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Always heed advice given by ocean safety officials and know your
limits. When in doubt, do not go out.

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the

* flood advisory for...
the island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* until 600 PM HST

* at 236 PM HST, radar continued to show heavy showers and isolated
thunderstorms moving onto saturated windward slopes of The Big
Island. Gages and radar showed widespread showers producing rain
rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour with isolated heavier showers
moving across Hilo and puna. Expect ponding on roads, especially
in and around Hilo, as well as rises in streams.

* Locations in the advisory include but are not limited to...
Hilo, Naalehu, Paauilo, Waipio Valley, orchidlands estates,
Kukuihaele, Hawi, Pepeekeo, Keaau, Honokaa, Ookala and Hawaiian
Paradise Park.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to
flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due
to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don't drown.


This advisory may need to be extended beyond 600 PM HST if heavy rain
persists.

This advisory replaces the previously issued advisory that was in
effect for portions of the island of Hawaii in Hawaii County.
