Areal Flood Advisory

Expires 10:45 PM EDT on April 24, 2018
Statement as of 8:54 am MDT on April 22, 2018

The National Weather Service in Great Falls has issued a

* small stream flood advisory for poor drainage areas for...
rain and snowmelt in...
Madison County in southwestern Montana...

* until 845 PM MDT Tuesday

* at 846 am MDT, emergency management reported snowmelt causing
small stream and creek flooding across parts of Madison County. In
Ennis, moore's creek is flooding and water is approaching some
nearby homes. In Virginia City, daylight creek is flooding.

* As snow continues to melt, water may break loose from areas
blocked by snow, causing small streams and creeks to quickly rise,
especially in the valleys. In addition, rain on snow is likely
later today through this evening which may add to the flooding
concerns. Some areas not experiencing flooding now may soon see
flooding by tonight or Monday.

* Some additional locations that may experience flooding include...
Sheridan, Twin Bridges, Alder, Pony, Silver Star, Harrison,
Norris, McAllister, Laurin, Cameron, Waterloo, and Jeffers.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are
potentially dangerous when flooded. Do not attempt to cross flooded
roads. Find an alternate Route.

If in a flood-prone location, take precautions in case flooding
develops overnight.
