Areal Flood Warning

... A Flood Warning for small streams remains in effect until 745 am
EDT Friday for western Athens and Vinton counties...

At 122 am EDT, Doppler radar indicated an area of very heavy
rainfall has moved north of the area. However, additional rainfall
will affect the warn area. Waters will slowly recede overnight. Up
to two inches of rain have already fallen.

Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Athens, Wellston, Nelsonville, Glouster, McArthur, Albany, Lake hope
State Park, Chauncey, Hamden, Buchtel, Jacksonville, Trimble,
Zaleski, Creola, Eagle Mills, Radcliffe, Allensville and the plains.

Additional rainfall amounts of 0.25 inches are possible in the
warned area.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Please report flooding to the National Weather Service by calling
toll free, 800 401 9535, when you can do so safely.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for

* portions of southeast Ohio and West Virginia, including the
following areas, in southeast Ohio, Athens, Gallia, Jackson
OH, Meigs, Morgan, Perry, Vinton, and Washington. In West
Virginia, Barbour, Braxton, Calhoun, Clay, Doddridge, Gilmer,
Harrison, Jackson WV, Kanawha, Lewis, Mason, northwest
Nicholas, northwest Pocahontas, northwest Randolph, northwest
Webster, Pleasants, Putnam, Ritchie, Roane, southeast
Nicholas, southeast Pocahontas, southeast Randolph, southeast
Webster, Taylor, Tyler, Upshur, Wirt, and wood.

* Through late tonight

* multiple rounds of showers and storms are likely through
tonight. Rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are expected, with
locally higher amounts.

* Heavy amounts of rain in short periods of time may cause
creeks and streams to rapidly rise out of their banks, along
with the potential of flash flooding in urban areas.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead
to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should flash flood warnings be issued.
