Winter Weather Advisory
Expires 12:00 PM EST on February 20, 2019
Statement as of 9:26 PM EST on February 19, 2019
... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon EST
Wednesday...
* what... freezing rain expected. Total ice accumulations of a few
hundredths of an inch expected.
* Where... the northern Piedmont including the Piedmont triad
region and locations along and north of the Interstate 85
corridor.
* When... until noon EST Wednesday.
* Additional details... a brief mixture of sleet, rain, and snow
early tonight will change to just rain. Then, as temperatures
fall to near freezing late tonight and Wednesday morning, the
rain will change to freezing rain or freezing drizzle and create
a light glaze of ice over far northern portions of the Piedmont.
Most of the icing will accrue on elevated surfaces, however,
some icing may develop on area streets, roads, bridges,
overpasses, and sidewalks. The greatest accumulations of wintry
precipitation will occur well north of Interstate 85. The
hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute. Freezing
rain will change to rain before noon Wednesday as temperatures
warm above freezing.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of freezing rain
will cause travel difficulties. Expect slippery roads. Slow down
and use caution while driving.
