Special Statement

Expires 10:00 PM CST on January 23, 2019
Statement as of 12:14 PM CST on January 23, 2019

... Black ice still a concern for the quad state region late this
afternoon and tonight...

As the rain moves east across the quad state region early this
afternoon, some very light snow flurries or brief sleet and
freezing drizzle may occur over extreme southeast Illinois,
southwest Indiana and parts of west Kentucky, generally east of
the Land Between The Lakes.

Any light wintry mix should last less than two hours at any one
location. Little, if any accumulation is expected at all.

Temperatures will still be at or above freezing by the time most
of the measurable rainfall moves out of the area. This rain will
also keep Road surfaces above freezing for several hours.

The gusty winds will help to dry off most of the Road surfaces
this afternoon, but some locations may still remain wet closer to
sunset.

If you are planning travel along and west of Interstate 57 in
Illinois and Interstate 55 in southeast Missouri between 4 PM and
7 PM today, some Road surfaces that still have water on them may
develop a layer of black ice.

If you are planning travel east of Interstate 57 and Interstate 24
in southern Illinois and west Kentucky, black ice may develop
between 7 PM and 11 PM on roads that remain west.

For those in traveling in southwest Indiana and the pennyrile
region of west Kentucky, black ice could develop as early as 11 PM
tonight.

As temperatures dip down into the 20s overnight, any roads still
wet will likely develop a layer of black ice. Please use caution
while driving for your morning commute on Thursday and allow
extra time to reach your destination.
