Unhealthy air will be common across eastern Washington and north
Idaho due to the large wildfires currently burning around the region.

The Idaho department of environmental quality (deq) has issued a stage
1 air quality forecast and caution to notify residents of Benewah,
Bonner, boundary, Kootenai, Shoshone, Latah, Nez Perce, Lewis,
Clearwater, and Idaho counties of degraded air quality. Due to smoke
from wildfires around the western U.S. And areas in north Idaho and
is forecast to continue to be degraded for the next several days. The
pollutant of concern is fine particulate matter (pm2.5).

Children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory illnesses
are most at risk of serious health effects. If you experience
respiratory distress, you should speak with your physician.

Some improvement in ventilation will be possible toward the end of
the week. The air quality alert will be reassessed on Friday for the
weekend based on these trends and upcoming weather conditions.

... Red flag warning remains in effect from 11 PM this evening to
11 am PDT Friday for thunderstorms for fire weather zone 674...

* affected area: fire weather zone 674 East Washington Palouse
and Spokane area (zone 674).

* Thunderstorms: isolated thunderstorms with little or no rain
will develop late tonight into Friday morning over the Palouse
region and Spokane area.

* Outflow winds: local gusts to 30 mph.

* Impacts: lightning will efficiently ignite dry fuels around
the region.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... .or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures can
contribute to extreme fire behavior.
